Who can shop at the Jamil Niner Student Pantry?

  • Currently registered UNC Charlotte undergraduate and graduate students, as well as current employees, are eligible to shop at the pantry.

What information must I provide to shop at the Jamil Niner Student Pantry?

  • Students must complete the online form under the Appointments tab which asks for your student ID # and the number of dependents (minors) in your household. We do not ask invasive financial questions.

Do I need a referral to shop at the Jamil Niner Student Pantry?

  • No. Our pantry uses a 'self-selection' model which means you determine whether you need to use the food pantry. Simply fill out the online appointment form. As long as you are a student enrolled in classes at UNC Charlotte or a current faculty or staff member, you qualify.

How much does it cost to shop at the Jamil Niner Student Pantry?

  • Shopping at the pantry is completely free.

Can I come to the Jamil Niner Student Pantry without an appointment?

  • Students can walk in without an appointment on Wednesday between 11am - 3pm. Employees do not need an appointment to shop at the pantry.

Can I shop at the pantry as a walk in on Tuesday and Thursday?

  • No. Students must make an appointment to shop at the pantry on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Student walk ins are specifically for Wednesday between 11am - 3pm. Employees can walk in and shop at the pantry on any day when the pantry is open.

Where is the Jamil Niner Student Pantry located?

  • 1224 John Kirk Drive, Charlotte, NC
  • The bus that meets in silver lot 6 stops near the pantry. If riding the bus, take a left from the bus stop and walk past the Adult Care Center. 
  • Be respectful to our neighbors. Do not walk through the yard of the house next to the pantry.

What kinds of items can I receive at the Jamil Niner Student Pantry?

  • The pantry provides a variety of perishable and non-perishable food items, personal hygiene products, household items, period products, bread, fresh produce, and frozen vegetables. Fresh items such as bread, and fresh produce are available in limited quantities on a first-come-first-served basis. We also offer a selection of items specific to shoppers with dependents (small children).

What if I am late for my appointment? 

  • Shoppers who arrive more than 15 minutes outside of their appointment time will be asked to wait until other on time appointments have shopped. This policy is in place to guarantee a smooth shopping experience for everyone.

Can groups volunteer and donate?

  • Yes! We have a maximum capacity of 15 to 20 people in the pantry at any given time. Use the Group Volunteer Form to sign up group volunteers. You can look under our donate tab to see the items that we accept in the pantry. 

How can I request diapers for my dependent children? 

  • To request diapers, please fill out the diaper form the day before your appointment. They can only be received once a month.
