Swipe Out Hunger is a nationwide program that partners with colleges to help put an end to student hunger and assist those who struggle with food insecurity.

Swipe Out Hunger Program at UNC Charlotte

The Swipe Out Hunger Program aims to provide students who are food insecure, and/or who are experiencing an emergency situation, access to healthy and well-balanced meals in our campus dining halls. To be eligible, students must be currently enrolled at UNC Charlotte.

If you meet this initial requirement and would like to complete a needs-based assessment to determine your further eligibility for the program, please email ninerpantry@charlotte.edu directly with your inquiry. Your email should include specific information regarding why you are in need of this particular service. Please review additional information on UNC Charlotte's Swipe Out Hunger before submitting an email inquiry. If you have specific questions about the SwipeOut Hunger program, reach out to Josh Boyd, Program Director for Basic Needs Services (jboyd57@charlotte.edu).

Donate Meal Swipes

Students can donate up to two swipes from their meal plan per semester. Swipes can be donated during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (2025-2026 dates to be determined), via the Niner Diners Mobile Ordering app. In the app, select Swipe Out Hunger in the Seasonal Specials section, then click Swipe Donation and check out. Only one swipe may be donated per transaction so please consider donating two swipes through two separate transactions.

If you have a block plan, you can check your meal plan balance online. If you have The Daily Plan, you will need to wait at least 15 minutes before or after your last meal has been used.

Visit our tables in the Student Union and SoVi during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week for questions, to learn how to volunteer at the pantry, or to donate to the pantry.
