Local Pantry Referrals

The Jamil Niner Student Pantry is for current students, faculty, and staff only. If you are not a current student, faculty, or staff, food pantries in your local community are available. Some community food pantries require a referral. Please call 211 and state that you need food assistance. Questions such as "how do I get a food pantry referral?" and "can you provide me names of food pantries that don't have this requirement" will help you get connected to your local resources based on your specific needs.

Nourish Up

If you need immediate food assistance, call Nourish Up for help. They will get you food, and then connect you with their programs to prevent emergencies again. Nourish Up also has a food pantry on-site that is open during their normal business hours.

If it is not an emergency but you would still like to receive a referral to begin using the pantry and you live in Davidson, Huntersville, or Cornelius, you may call the Ada Jenkins Center at 704-896-0471. If not, call Nourish Up.

SNAP Benefits

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), known locally as Food and Nutrition Services (FNS), provides essential food assistance to eligible individuals and households in Mecklenburg County. This program is especially beneficial for college students facing food insecurity.

The SNAP Double Bucks program helps community members make the most of their SNAP benefits at farmers markets by providing a dollar-for-dollar match to purchase fresh, local produce. Sponsored by Mecklenburg County Public Health’s Food Security Program, the SNAP Double Bucks program focuses on improving access to healthy food for county residents. The program is implemented through a partnership with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Food Policy Council and participating farmers markets.

Our health department handles EBT (SNAP) applications. There are three Mecklenburg County Health and Human Services locations. You may apply in person, drop off a completed application, or mail a completed application to any of the three offices.
